Are Protein Treatments Necessary For Dreads?
I can’t remember the last time I did a protein treatment, but I know I definitely haven’t done one since I’ve been a dread.
I know protein keeps the hair strong, but it hasn’t been a concern of mine lately. When I was loose it mattered because I was manipulating my hair more (doing styles, twisting, combing…) so my hair’s strength seemed more important.
Now I see my dreads as being a sorta barrier in themselves. They are, after all, strands of knotted, tangled, interwoven hair. Yes, dreads can still be weak, but I’d only think that could be a problem at the root, and my roots seem fine.
If you’re a dread, do you do protein treatments? Why? And have you noticed any differences since beginning?
