Review: Optimum Care Salon Collection Shampoo & Conditioner
I received these samples courtesy of Essence Insiders with directions to use them twice within the next month. The accompanying letter proclaimed these the “new and improved salon quality formulas.”
Getting the pouches open was a feat in itself. Of course, you won’t have this problem when purchasing from the store, but I had to actually cut the pack open because I couldn’t do it by hand.
The first thing I noticed was the smell. It smelled very…salon-ish Maybe you guys know what I’m talking about. It didn’t smell badly, it just smelled like I was back in the stylist’s chair getting my “hurr did.”
The lather was excellent and the shampoo and conditioner were both thick and creamy. I noticed right away, however, that my hair became hard when I put on the shampoo. I mean it instantly hardened, very similar to Aphogee’s protein treatment. This is the anti-breakage formula so I’m guessing there’s craploads of protein in it.
I thought the conditioner would help soften my hair, but no luck. If anything, it made it worse. I made sure to rinse every last bit out. I didn’t oil my hair like I usually do because I wanted to get an accurate review of the products.
The second time I used it I did add my oil and even deep conditioned but the results were the same…dry, crunchy hair.
Verdict: This product is not for me. Hardcore moisturizing is generally needed after protein treatments. Perhaps my regular moisturizing conditioner routine wasn’t enough, but I’m content with it.
I give this collection
