Mail Break: washing Dreads
A letter from the NHBG inbox:
Love your locs! I have a question. With natural locs, do you wash anytime you want to? How often do you wash? And when you freeform, even if you’re not washing your locs, does it matter if you get them wet?
A: Yes, I wash whenever I want. Usually once a week but now that it’s warmer and I’ve started working out, I wash 2-3 times a week. Sometimes I even rinse in between washes. That’s one of the benefits of being a freeformer…you don’t have to be afraid of water.
When I shower or take a bath I do put them up. But not because I’m afraid of getting them wet. I do it to keep them from getting soap on them.
Contrary to popular belief, our hair loves and benefits from water. Water is the truest form of moisture and helps prevent dry, brittle, and dull hair. Also be sure to drink plenty as part of your regular diet.
