Naturals To Know: Robyn Johnson

1 How long have you been natural? Did you transition? And if so, how?

I have been natural since July 4, 2010. I transitioned for 9 months before doing the BC. I transitioned with micro-braids initially, then I tried different styles with my transitioning hair. I finally decided wigs and pony tails were going to be my best option… fooling around with those two textures became overwhelming.

2 Describe your hair in three words.

Bold, Refreshing and Undeniable!

3 How are you currently wearing your hair? What is your hair routine? What products do you use?

I’m so in love with the braid-out right now! I have been wearing braid-outs for almost 2 months now. My hair routine is pretty simple… I co-wash on Friday nights and sleep in my deep conditioner. I rinse the conditioner out on Saturday morning and braid my hair. I usually wear hats over the weekend (it is starting to get cold here) and I unbraid my hair on Monday morning for work. I typically re-braid my hair every night and secure my braids with a silk scarf to preserve the style for the week.

4 Name one thing that you learned about your hair after becoming a natural.

That it is absolutely beautiful and so versatile!

5 Where else can we find you online?

6 A final word of advice for new naturals?

Have fun with your new head of hair. Play around with different styles and different products. If a style you are attempting fails, it most likely isn’t your hair, but the products you are using!
