Review: Aunt Jackie’s Shampoo & Conditioner

Aunt Jackie’s was kind enough to send me some products to review. I’d never tried the line but had read and seen fabulous reviews about their products.

I used both the shampoo and conditioner for about a month. Here’s what I thought of them.

Aunt Jackie's Oh So Clean Moisturizing Conditioner

Aunt Jackie’s Oh So Clean! Moisturizing & Softening Shampoo

The first thing I noticed about these products is that they contain no parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, or petrolatum.

So, of course, I had to check out the ingredients. The first was water. The second was Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate. Sounds like a sulfate, right?

It’s not. Upon further research I found that Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate is technically not a sulfate. It is, however, a surfactant, and can be even harsher and more irritating than Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, a common no-no ingredient for many naturals.

That being said, I like the shampoo. It’s thick, creamy, and lathers well.

And it smells heavenly, like pineapples and mangoes. Very fruity. In fact, it’s the best-smelling shampoo I can recall ever using. It’s that good.

My hair didn’t feel dry or stripped after using it. It washed out cleanly and left no residue.

The conditioner, on the other hand, was nothing special. I noticed absolutely no difference in my hair when using this product.

I tried leaving it on longer, using more product,…nothing.

But again, the smell was divine. Pairing this conditioner with the shampoo had my hair smelling like a tropical paradise for a week straight.

Rating these products separately, I give the shampoo 4/5 nappy fros and the conditioner 3/5. I would purchase the shampoo but probably won’t even finish the conditioner.

  2. Did the conditioner have good slip? Maybe it’s just a good combing conditioner?

I’ve never heard of this brand either. The thought of fruity smelling anything is mesmorizing!

I have been using the conditioner for about 6 months and it works well for me. It softens my hair and yes it smells great.

Saw the shampoo at the Dollar General and decided to give it a shot… I enjoy supporting non-major brands. The smell is indeed the best ever, left my hair feeling clean and full. Haven’t tried the conditioner, but I will try it as a slip.

The smell… the richness of the lather… so creamy. I’m hooked.

    • You sound enamored lol

I agree with supporting the smaller brands. So many out there but we only ever hear about the big ones. It’s like discovering a diamond in the rough.

      Thanks for sharing your experience.

The shampoo stripped my hair. It was squeaky clean after the first wash. Based on that, this is the “go to” shampoo for product build up. But I would not use it weekly. The lather was awesome. And I agree the smell was nice.
